Entertainment Round-Up: Things to do in Canterbury This Week

Waze & Odyssey come to The Venue this Friday

Don’t want to stick to your weekly evenings routine? Jessica Duncan offers some alternative suggestions of events both on and off campus. Here’s what to do in Canterbury this week (Monday 24th – Sunday 30th November).

Looking for a chilled, sociable evening drinking cocktails on Monday? The Ballroom is the ideal place for a relaxed atmosphere, with 2 for 1 cocktails until 2.30am, as well as free entry.

New to Canterbury is the Curzon. Whilst a little more expensive than the normal cinema, it shows the same mainstream films, but also other independent films. Located just off the high street, why not give it a visit? This Tuesday you can catch My Old Lady, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One, or The Imitation Game.

Want to let out your inner geek or need an excuse to wear that fancy dress costume you bought for freshers? Well this Wednesday Jelli Baby is hosting a Geek night at Venue, so get out those glasses, and head to Vensday. Find more details on the Facebook event page here.

Don’t fancy queuing for Cuban in the cold this week but still want to go out and listen to music? A great alternative is Club Burrito. With free entry and live bands every Thursday, this week they play host to the blues/rock/country band Law Abiding Citizens. Check out their flyer here.

Friday sees Waze & Odyssey, famous for their hit remix of ‘Bump and Grind’, making an appearance at Venue. Just ÂŁ5 a ticket, doors open at 10pm and promises to be a great night at Trend. Follow this link for details.

Having a cinema on campus means that you can still catch the films you missed while you were writing that essay but at a cheaper price! This Saturday morning at 10.30am, the Gulbenkian hosts Malificent (PG). Whether you’re watching it for the first time or you want to see it on the big screen again, it’s worth coming onto campus on the weekend.

For those who enjoy lazy Sundays (especially when funds are running a bit low after a big week), browsing the Whitefriars Christmas Market could get you into that Christmas spirit. The market runs from Thursday 20th November to Sunday 28th December, open from 10am to 6pm Monday to Friday (later on Thursdays), 9am to 6pm on Saturdays and 11am to 5pm Sundays. There is lots to look at and plenty of time to do so.
